Why Organic

Organic farms use less energy than conventional farms with careful ecological management including using natural ecological balances to solve pest problems. It’s estimated that organic farms use 70% less energy than industrial farms.

Health Benefits

Clayton’s Organic Beef is much leaner than conventional beef, so it has less fat and fewer calories. It has substantially higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, which are also found abundantly in fish such as salmon, and relatively lower levels of omega-6 fatty acids. Omega-3 has been shown to have a range of heart-healthy benefits, including reducing blood pressure, alleviating heart disease, offsetting the affects of cancer, helping brain function, and providing other benefits.

Clayton’s Organic Beef is also much higher in conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which like omega-3, has a variety of heart-healthy benefits, including lowering LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, and reducing cancer risk. Clayton’s Organic beef is also much higher in beta-carotene.

Rich Flavour

Clayton’s Organic Beef is richer and has more flavour… Cattle are Grass Fed with a 100 day corn and sorghum grain finish. Clayton’s Organic Beef’s flavour is more robust, it has been described as the “original” taste of beef, sweeter or nuttier than feedlot animals.

    Animal Welfare

Clayton’s Organic cattle are free to roam their pasture or range, and therefore lead a much lower stress life compared to animals that are crammed onto a feedlot. Clayton’s Organic Beef eat the natural grasses, sorghum and organic corn unlike feedlot animals that are typically fed grains that they can’t properly digest.

      Traceability

A standout feature of the Clayton’s Organic story is the traceability of the meat. This means Clayton and Jackie know the journey of every animal through the certified organic breeding farms, to our finishing farm, all the way to the plate. It is important to them that their customers know where their beef is coming from, and feel reassured that sound and humane methods are being used.

Clayton’s Organic cattle are free to roam the extensive farmland, grazing as they wish. Their diet is supplemented with certified organic feed – much of which is grown on the family farm. This ensures a consistency of beef produced without compromising the free range nature of the animals.

        Environmental Sustainability

Animal agriculture needs a lot of water, and livestock across the world consumes half of the world’s total grain harvest. Conventional farming takes its toll on our natural resources, and this is becoming more prominent as concerns about climate change continue to rise.

We do things differently on our farm. For example, manure is used as natural fertiliser and our organic farming methods aim to create a healthy balance of the soil without using chemicals to control it.

We will never use synthetic pesticides and fertilisers on our feed or land. This is good for you, our cattle, and us with lower exposure for all of us to chemicals.

Organic farms also use less energy than conventional farms with careful ecological management including using natural ecological balances to solve pest problems. It’s estimated that organic farms use 70% less energy than industrial farms

          Why choose Certified Organic?

          No Hormones or Antibiotics

Our animals are raised organically – and this means they are not allowed to be fed antibiotics, the bovine growth hormone (rBGH), or other artificial drugs.

          Free Range and Grass Fed

When you see the words “organic” and “free range” this usually tells you that the animals were raised in a more humane way, and their diet is likely to be more well-rounded. This is the case on our farms. Our animals are not confined to a small space, they spend significant amounts of time outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine.
